This work involves the construction of a mandala using photographic digital composition techniques.
I interrupted my work on the second piece of the mandala series because I have been so disturbed by the on-going manifestations of racism and I felt I needed to express my inner feelings. The result is this piece, entitled Because They Matter. It’s based on an image of a Black Power flag I found on the Web. Unlike a typical mandala, this is not meant to induce tranquility; yet, hopefully, it will help focus consciousness and make people think and understand.
Black Power is a necessary component of achieving racial, social and political equality. We shouldn't fear it.
